Returning to the work, I strengthened the color by feeding it, increasing contrast and light, playing with complementary tones, like a nose searching for the note that reveals a perfume. That spring, from the very first moments of a devastating fire in the valley overlooking my home, though frozen by anxiety and the fear of imminent danger, I captured the memory of a fascinating spectacle. At that very moment, for this series I was about to create, Pierre Lemaitre suggested the title: “COLORS OF FIRE.” These are colors in action, reaching their paroxysm: how can they be made to burst forth in their movement and intensity? Art is artifice; the perfumer is a maker of artifice, and the painter composes the formula of his own fireworks…
